May 8th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Concerned with the current plight of the city of Cumberland- about a half a dozen area residents on Tuesday took turns letting the Mayor and Council know just how frustrated they are becoming.  The loss of jobs that will result when the Luke Mill closes; increasing water and trash rates; deteriorating roads and dilapidated properties all came up during the hearing of constituents- with more than one recommending the city allow itself to be absorbed by county government…

It seems the cure all answer for Rhodes & the Comptroller is “Charge the City Residents more”
Appears THEY may be the problem. No solutions are talked about! Ultimately, they will continue to RUN more folks away, then maybe the
Cumberland Economic Developement Group will own the entire City!!

      > Given that Ed’s Cemetery Group which promote religious beliefs and the Confederacy has their had in the cities pocket, it is impressive he wants to bite the hand that feeds it.

        > Mr Taylor grew up when it had PPG, the kelly, the brewery. Mr Taylor doesn’t care what happens to funding of his organization. He is just telling it like it is. That is why he is so hated and I am not one of them who hates him. He has had that title for almost 3 decades. He is a expert in historical cemeteries. I had the opportunity to go on one of his tours and is a very good person who has his views. The current Mayor seems like a good guy. This current mayor and city council are in a bind.

    > Ah yes, our acquiescent comptroller. His predecessor left in protest of Grim and Rhodes running up millions more in debt for the city so they got a more manageable replacement and they have been digging the hole deeper since. Massive borrowing plus raising taxes and roughly doubling the sewer rates and now more increases. They need more money to lavish on the city employees and retirees. In a candidate debate a few years ago ALL the city candidates present said their duty would be to the city employees rather than the taxpayers. The City is done, Morriss needs to stick a fork in it.
