Assault With A Deadly Weapon Arrest

On 11/11/12 @ 2:25 a.m., Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff's Office along with Troopers from the Maryland State Police responded to Sorrell Rd. in Oldtown for a reported assault.  Investigation revealed that Joseph Dowell (48, Oldtown) had assaulted a family member, Calvin Dowell (68, Oldtown) in a vehicle on Malcom Rd. when Joseph Dowell retrieved a tire iron from the trunk  and shattered the driver's side window where Calvin Dowell was seated and then repeatedly struck and stabbed Calvin Dowell with the tire iron.  Calvin Dowell retrieved a pocket knife and reportedly defended himself, cutting Joseph Dowell on the hand, then fled into the woods and then to a neighbors house on Oldtown Rd. who called 911.

     During the incident, Calvin Dowell received non life threatening injuries to his hands and one leg and was treated at the scene.  Joseph Dowell also received non life threatening injuries and was transported to the WMHS RMC by the Paw Paw VFD (Co. # 32).  Deputies then applied for an Arrest Warrant for Joseph Dowell which was served later on 11/11/12.  Joseph Dowell (picture attached) was charged with 1st degree assault, 2nd degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a deadly weapon with intent to injure and following an initial appearance in front of a District Court Commissioner was ordered held on $50,000 and then transported to the Allegany Couny Detention Center.
