Beitzel Honored in Annapolis

Today, during the Maryland Legislative Session on the House floor Delegate Beitzel was presented the Charles “Mac” Mathias, Jr.  Statesman Award by Speaker, Michael E. Busch. This award is presented in the fourth year of each term to one member of the Majority Party and one member of the Minority Party that best demonstrate a willingness and ability to reach across the aisle to serve the needs of the people of Maryland.

Delegate Beitzel continues to show his dedication and committed devotion working as a Delegate for the citizens of his district and the state of Maryland. He has always shown the ability to compromise and work with his colleagues regardless of their political views.

“I was not aware that I was even being considered for this prestigious award. I was sitting in my chair on the House floor when Speaker Busch stated that the recipient of the award was a member of Mountain Maryland and on the Appropriations Committee. As he continued I suddenly realized he was speaking of me. I was totally shocked when he announced that I was the recipient of the award,” stated Beitzel.

Delegate Beitzel’s wife, Ruth,  and Chief of Staff, Chris Lokey were there to support his acceptance of the Charles “Mac” Mathias, Jr.  Statesman  Award. Beitzel further stated that “he was extremely honored to receive this recognition, and grateful for the privilege of representing the people in District !A in the Maryland House of Delegates.

He was also received further recognizion at the Speakers Society Dinner held in Annapolis on Tuesday evening, February 13, 2018. Delegate Beitzel is serving in the final year of his third four year term in the House of Delegates and has announced his intention to seek election for another term. Prior to being elected in 2006 to the House of Delegates he also served one term as County Commissioner for Garrett County.
