Bel Air Residents Could Be Getting New Pedestrian Bridge

November 26th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

It has been a source of frustration for more than seven years- but it now appears that citizens of Bel Air may soon walk across a new pedestrian bridge at that community’s elementary school. It was announced last month that a $320,000 state grant will be awarded for a bridge to replace another that fell into disrepair and has been closed since 2011. The pedestrian bridge is situated behind Bel Air Elementary School, which is located on Barton Boulevard and serves more than 200 pre-K through fifth grade students. The bridge crosses a creek bed and allowed residents of the community to walk to the school and the numerous recreational areas surrounding it.  Vince Montana, director of facilities for the school system, said the process was challenging. He said meeting SHA standards, along with Americans with Disabilities Act standards, had caused delays and increased the price tag but there is now reason for optimism…
