Board of Education Candidates Answer Question About Mountain Ridge Incidents

June 6th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The last question asked at Monday’s WCBC Board of Education Candidate Forum was the one that was likely the most emotional for questioners, candidates and listeners.

It dealt with several situations in the last decade that have occurred at Mountain Ridge High School, with four teachers eventually either admitting,  or being found guilty, of having inappropriate relationships with students.

Panelist George “Mac” McKinley is a local attorney who represented a teacher in one of the cases…

Candidate Robert Farrell was Coordinator of Safety, Security and Risk Management for the system before his position was eliminated.  In his answer to the question, he said he was told to stay away from the case, but heard from several students and parents that the inappropriate activity was widely known.

School officials have disputed that, saying there is no evidence that the Mountain Ridge administration knew of the abuse.
