Board of Education Conducting Interim School Superintendent Interviews This Week

The Allegany County Board of Education will be conducting interviews this week with what now appears to be just three candidates seeking to serve as the interim superintendent of schools. In early May, Superintendent Dr David Cox was offered, and accepted the job of heading up the Sullivan County Tennessee system, with his first day set for August 1st. Other than a couple of very brief media releases with little or no detail- the board has been tight lipped about the process- with attorney Mike Llewellyn last week telling WCBC News the names of the six applicants would not be made public. While a total of 6 applied for the position prior to the June 26th deadline- the list is now down to three, with two having withdrawn their names and another eliminated prior to any interviews. Those remaining candidates, according to board sources, are Dr Kim Kalbaugh, chief academic officer; Jeff Blank, chief administrative officer and former supervisor or transportation Jay Walbert. While there is a chance none of those three are selected with other individuals recruited or lobbied to fill the post- the board is facing somewhat of a time crunch with Cox vacating in two weeks- and the new school year a little over a month away. According to school board vice president Dr David Bohn, whoever is appointed, could be there for a while as the search for a permanent superintendent will be thorough…
