Parents from the Parkside school area packed the meeting room of the Allegany County Board of Education this week as the board received the official report from a consultant which recommends closing Parkside and Georges Creek elementary schools. Under the plan on the table, those students would be redistricted to other schools which have more adequate space to accommodate a larger student population. The school board announced in 2016 its desire to review elementary schools and the district boundaries- and contracted with Facility Engineering Associates of Fairfax, Virginia, to perform the study.
