Board’s Audit Currently Nine Months Past Due

County officials are still waiting for  the Allegany County Board of Education to provide a financial audit- an audit that is now close to nine months past due. The county requires its agencies to submit a financial audit annually in order to enable the county to compile and submit its required audit to its state and federal funding partners. County Finance Director Jason Bennett has said that not having the audit puts the county at risk if state or federal partners decide to withhold or stop funding for not being in compliance.  Board of Education Chief Financial Officer Lawrence McKenzie provided an update on the situation during this week’s school board  meeting. When  pressed for an expected completion date- he said that it should be ready by the end of the month.  Board member Deb Frank said that although the audit is late- the board has actually been doing a much better job in recent years of completing those fiscal documents in a timely manner…

    When pressed for an answer CFO Lawrence McKenzie said that it (audit) should be ready by the end of the month.
    Unfortunately they didn’t press hard enough as he wasn’t required to specify at the end of which month.
