BoE Action To Hire Additional School Security & Mental Health Professionals Made Official

The Allegany County Board of Education last month voted to add four school security employees and four mental health professionals to the school system.  Upgrading school security has been an identified priority of the board since taking office- although there have been some differing opinions on how best to allocate funding for security personnel. After a presentation from Matt Marlowe, the Allegany County Public Schools assistant supervisor for student support services, the board voted unanimously for the additions. That board action was made official Thursday when the County Commissioners authorized a line item budget transfer of $564,000 from the school board’s reserve fund to go toward the new hires. School Board member Deb Frank said that additional mental health professionals is something the system has badly needed….
