Brodie reacts to critics of decision to cancel Fair

May 29th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Allegany County Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr fired back Thursday at those criticizing the decision to officially cancel the 2020 Fair and Ag Expo. The annual event had been scheduled for the week of July 17-23 this year but the commissioners were forced to cancel as a result of COVID-19 issues.  WCBC reported the news Tuesday afternoon and there was an immediate firestorm of negative comments posted on social media sites- some even threatening the county officials.  Brodie said that the commissioners have always been strong supporters of the fair and the decision to cancel is strictly the result of state guidelines…

The news wasn’t all bad as interim County Administrator Jason Bennett announced that the talent lineup that had been scheduled: Josh Turner; For King and Country; and AC/DC tribute band Live Wire have all tentatively committed to playing the fair in the summer of 2021..

The County Commission is in a lose lose situation.
Cancel the Fair and be criticized.
Allow the Fair to continue and if people sicken and die be criticized and hated.
Much smarter to err on the side of common sense and caution.

Just don’t cancel football. I love Fort Hill. I have my rights.

One of the very few times that I agree with the Commissioners.
