BW announces change in leadership structure

March 6th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Bishop Walsh School Board of Directors has announced a structural change in the school’s management operation. A letter sent out Friday afternoon notes that Dr. Ray Kiddy will be retiring at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. During his tenure as principal, Dr. Kiddy has been instrumental in creating new educational initiatives, enhancing athletics programming, and growing the overall enrollment at Bishop Walsh Catholic School.  In an effort to continue the institutional advancement of the school and grow the academic programs established by Dr. Kiddy and former Bishop Walsh Catholic School President, Sister Phyllis McNally, S.S.N.D, the leadership structure of Bishop Walsh Catholic School will return to the successful president/principal model, effective July 1, 2020.  We have worked diligently to find the next leader of Bishop Walsh Catholic School, and are excited to announce that Mr. Joseph Carter, M. Ed. has been appointed president of Bishop Walsh Catholic School.  As president, Mr. Carter will work in concert with the Archdiocese and the Bishop Walsh Catholic School Board to guide the overall direction of the school by focusing on Catholic identity, institutional advancement, and financial oversight of the school. The new principal, who will be announced in the coming weeks, will report to Mr. Carter and focus on academic excellence and quality instruction designed to support the needs of every learner.  Mr. Carter is a 1972 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s in Education from Frostburg State University. He recently served as principal of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland and has over 40 years of teaching and administrative experience in public and private schools.  His successful career and extensive knowledge of the school community – as a graduate, teacher, and coach – will ensure that Bishop Walsh’s history of strong leadership continues. Mr. Carter will work closely with Dr. Kiddy to ensure a smooth transition.
