Caporale Hints at Possible Deal with CSX on West Side Bridges

Cumberland City Councilman David Caporale says that while the details can’t be made public just yet, he believes the city is closing in on a deal with CSX Transportation that may finally offer resolution to the years old West Side bridge issues. CSX owned bridges on Cumberland, Fayette and Washington streets are all now closed as a result of deteriorating conditions that were exacerbated last month when  a CSX train struck two of those spans. Talks between the city and CSX have taken place in recent weeks and a follow up meeting is set for early August. At that time a deal could be announced that would include a temporary structure to help with access, and a long term plan that would see the see take ownership of the bridges. While some have called for the city to take CSX to court- Caporale told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” that the legal route would be more costly and time consuming than the proposals that are currently on the table…
