July 5th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

President Trump, on Monday, will announce his pick to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Kennedy. Count  U.S. Senator Ben Cardin among those not wanting to see this matter on the fast track. Cardin, a Maryland Democrat, said that this is an extremely important moment for the American people and the United States Senate. The Supreme Court is now at a crossroads as the next appointment can shape the Court for a generation.  Cardin adds that the Senate has a constitutional responsibility to provide advice and consent for a president’s nominees to the high court. The process should work in such a way that the president – any president – engages in meaningful consultations with the Senate to find a consensus candidate. With Republicans controlling the Senate, Cardin realizes it’s a difficult challenge ahead to slow the process but every effort will be made..
