Cardin To Discuss Tax Reform With Business Leaders

March 18th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin will join leaders of the Frederick business community to discuss his innovative tax reform proposal, which centers on a progressive consumption tax.  Senator Cardin’s proposal would eliminate income tax for the vast majority of Americans and would represent a comprehensive overhaul of America’s outdated system of taxation. It also would reduce the corporate income tax rate to one of the lowest among industrialized nations. “It’s time for some fresh thinking on tax reform. Our tax code should be fair for families and employers. It should help make Maryland-based businesses more competitive and our nation’s economy stronger. And it should provide a way to responsibly and reliably collect reasonable revenues,” said Senator Cardin. “Our current, 1980s-style tax code simply cannot accomplish these goals. My progressive consumption tax proposal represents a way to simplify our approach to taxation, while ensuring that the country’s revenue needs are met.”
