Casino Robbery Suspect Nabbed In West Virginia

     A New Creek, WV man is currently being held in WV on charges resulting from a strong armed robbery that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Rocky Gap Casino in Flintstone, MD.  Troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack were notified of the robbery by Casino employees shortly after the injured victim was discovered in the establishment at approximately 2:30 AM.  Initial investigation revealed that the victim was in a bathroom near the Casino’s gaming floor when he was attacked from behind.  After being violently assaulted, the victim had personal belongings and money stolen from his pants’ pockets.  The suspect, who authorities quickly identified as Andrew Scott Haggerty (27 yoa) of New Creek, WV, was observed leaving the Casino after the assault, prior to police arrival. (NOTE:  The victim is still hospitalized as of today’s date and for privacy reasons will not be identified at this time.)   

     Troopers from the Cumberland Barrack quickly canvassed the area and began searching for Haggerty at several known locations.  Due to the seriousness of the incident, troopers from the State Police Fugitive Apprehension Team were also brought in to look for Haggerty, as information was developed that led authorities to believe he had fled the immediate area.  After an exhaustive search, Haggerty was taken into custody in Mineral County, WV on Saturday evening at approximately 7:30 PM without further incident.  Allied agencies from West Virginia, Garrett County, MD, and additional troopers from the Combined Investigations Unit (C3I) and McHenry Barrack assisted with the apprehension of Haggerty.
