City Drafting New Policy on Jobs Requiring Driving

As a result of a number of recent incidents involving city employees, the Cumberland Mayor and City Council is in the process of drafting and adopting a new policy pertaining to driving. The policy, as outlined during Tuesday night’s council meeting, among other things will see that employees required to drive as a condition of their job, remain insurable; and to report the loss, suspension or revocation of their drivers licenses the next business day. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes reported that just recently the city has dealt with one employee who cannot be insured and one who lost their license but failed to report it. A third employee lost their license and were subsequently let go. City Solicitor Mike Cohen said the proposed policy is simply a common sense approach…
