City Looking To Implement Strategic Economic Development Study Recommendations

Cumberland Strategic Economic Development Study presented earlier this year included dozens of recommendations- including that the city create a single nonprofit organization to centralize and promote the various economic development efforts in the community. The 100-page economic study, paid for largely by grants, was completed by RKG Associates of Alexandria, Va. The City Council is now looking into implementing those recommendations. The new nonprofit would require the hiring of an economic development director and a marketing director. It would have a board of directors that would include private sector professionals with the new economic development director reporting to the board. Beneath the economic development director would be the marketing director and an economic development manager.  Councilman David Kauffman says he believes it’s time to move forward…
