Warrant Arrest
On January 8, 2017 the Cumberland Police arrested Michael Robert Caswell Jr, age 31 of Cumberland, MD. Caswell was served with three arrest warrants for Failure to Appear. Caswell failed to appear for court on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Fail to Obey a Lawful Order. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and was released on personal recognizance.

Theft Arrest
On January 8, 2018 the Cumberland Police responded to a S. Centre St business for a theft complaint. The victim advised the officer that someone had stolen his personal and business checkbooks and had cashed numerous checks. Later in the day, the same subject was reported to be in a Greene St business attempting to cash additional checks. The officer responded to the business and contacted the suspect, identified as Crystal Renee Wilt, 32 years old of Cumberland, MD. Wilt was found to be in possession of a fraudulent check and arrested. Through the investigation the officer learned that Wilt had cashed numerous checks totaling several thousand dollars over the past three months. Wilt was taken before the District Court Commissioner and is currently being held on $5,000 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center. Additional charges are pending in this case.

Assault Arrest
On January 8, 2017 the Cumberland Police responded to a residence on Lamont St for a report of an assault. When the officers arrived they contacted a female victim who advised that she had been assaulted by Joshua Paul Brant, age 34 of Cumberland, MD. While investigating the assault complaint, it was also learned that Brant had previously assaulted another adult female, who he lived with. This assault occurred early Sunday morning. The second female victim sustained visible injuries. Officers were able to locate Brant and placed him under arrest for the assaults. Brant was charged with two counts of Second Degree Assault. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance.

Disorderly Arrest
On January 8, 2017 officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on the 200 block of E. Union St for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival officers contacted the complainant, an employee of the business. The complainant advised that a male was causing problems with another customer and was asked to leave. Officers advised the subject, Ricky Wayne Lewis, 56 years old, of Cumberland, MD to leave the business and not cause further problems. Lewis continued to argue and threaten other customers and was placed under arrest for Fail to Obey a Lawful Order. He was issued a Criminal Citation and released from custody.
