Although it has largely been viewed as a failure to date- Allegany County Commissioner Mike McKay tells WCBC News he believes Canal Place has a bright future ahead. The struggling project currently has just two businesses operating and has yet to get the long discussed anchor hotel and restaurant off the ground floor. McKay says with a new executive director in place and some new board members, enthusiasm remains high- and that the major change will center on the business plan. After years of relying on state and federal aid and direction- McKay says letting the private sector lead the development effort will be the key to turning things around…
