Commissioners Send Letter Urging Delay Of PlanMaryland Program

Joining local governments from across the state, the Allegany County Commissioners have sent a letter to the state secretary of planning  and the governor urging a delay in the implementation of the controversial PlanMaryland program. The letter, drafted by county planning director Phil Hager and endorsed by the commissioners says that delaying implementation of the plan will allow  staff and local planners time to  more effectively address areas of inconsistency and areas of disagreement. Critics maintain that Plan Maryland’s expensive new mandates for rural home builders will make new residences prohibitively expensive- and attempts to give the state control over what have previously been local land decisions.  Hager says the biggest problem he sees is that there are plans to implement PlanMaryland prior to the key details being worked out- specifically the proposed “local designation process” which he believes will replace the existing “priority funding areas”…
