Commissioners to Address WMSR HQ move

With the news last week that the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has moved its headquarters out of the Railway Station in Cumberland- shifting all operations to Ridgeley- the Allegany County Commissioners are planning a meeting of all involved parties to address the issue.  The tourist train has been shut down this season due to the restrictions in place as a result of the Coronavirus- and that has led to an estimated $650,000 loss in revenue according to Scene Railroad General Manager John Garner- forcing the railroad to look at cost cutting measures.     Garner is holding them up for more money. Everyone knows what he’s doing but it sounds as though the County is going to play along and become complicit in the shakedown.
    Garner must always be taking from others. Railroad Magazine readers contributed 10′s of thousands and over the years the City, County and the State have done the same. But this local area is so addicted to tourism that they find no other recourse but to play along, or should I say, PAY along!
