Comptroller Peter Franchot Against Repeal Of State Tax Credit For Maryland Generators Using Coal Mined In State

Each of the past several years in Annapolis, there has been a concerted effort by some factions to repeal a $3/state tax credit for Maryland generators using coal mined in the state.  Each year the Allegany County Commissioners and District One Delegation have fought- successfully to defeat those efforts. Allegany County is one of Maryland's two coal-producing counties. Supporters of the repeal have claimed ending the credit would save the state $4.5 million in the first year, $34.5 million through fiscal 2021. Local officials believe such an action could be devastating for the local coal industry.  Allegany County has a major player on their side in this annual fight in Comptroller Peter Franchot…
