County Dips Into Reserve Fund To Balance Budget

The Allegany County Commissioners approved a $92 million budget as part of the final public meeting of May- a budget that includes a 2% cost of living increase for employees- and more than $300,000 additional for the public school system.  During a series of public hearings in March, the commissioners received $4.1 million in increase requests from various departments and agencies it funds- leading the commissioners and finance department to make some tough choices…

 

The county once again needed to dip into its reserve fund to balance the budget- taking $854,000. A total of 42% of the budget is earmarked for education; 23% for public safety; 12% for public works and 10% for county government.
