Cumberland gets Energy Assistance Grant

October 14th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The City of Cumberland recently received a $43,100 grant from Maryland Energy Administration to purchase and install automated control valves for the Biological Nutrient Removal process at the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). The new automated valves will be part of the Aeration Blower Replacement Project and will allow the Water Reclamation Facility to reduce its energy usage by 19%, exceeding Cumberland’s Smart Energy Community goal of 15%. Not only will the new valves lower energy costs, but it will also allow constant access to data and ongoing sampling boosting the quality of the data and identify patterns and trends more efficiently, which can reduce the usage of chemical additives.
