At approximately 2321hrs on 3/7/2018 officers from the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to Goethe Street residence for a report of a burglary.  Officers learned during the course of the investigation that a handgun was stolen along with other property. Officers continued to investigate the incident throughout their shift.  Officers developed Leo Richard Durocher Jr. as a suspect, as well as a suspect vehicle which was used in the commission of the crime. The officers involved in the original investigation observed the suspect vehicle as well as Durocher in the passenger seat of the vehicle at approximately 2116hrs on 3/8/2018.  Officers attempted a traffic stop on Bellevue Street when Durocher exited the vehicle and fled on foot. During the foot pursuit the officer observed Durocher throw down a gun box and observed him continuing to reach into his waistband. The suspect continued to run and refused to comply with orders. Durocher was subdued with the use of the officer’s taser.  A brief struggle ensued and officers were able to gain control of Durocher and place him in hand restraints. Officers noticed during the entire struggle that Durocher continued to attempt to reach for his waistband. Officers searched Durocher and located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun on him. Corriganville Fire Department Ambulance transported Durocher to the hospital due to the taser deployment.  Officers stood by with Durocher until he was released. He was transported to Police Headquarters for processing. Officers determined that Durocher was in possession of the stolen firearm which was taken from the Goethe Street burglary the night before. Durocher was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was held without bond.
