Cumberland Police Confirm Fatality On CSX Tracks

Tuesday morning at 10:37AM, a CSX train traveling through Cumberland in the area of Fayette Street discovered a deceased man on the railroad tracks. 

Cumberland Police Officers and the Cumberland Fire Department responded to the scene and confirmed the death.  Preliminary investigation reveled that the man appeared to have died as a result of being struck by a train sometime earlier.   The man’s identity is unknown at this time. 

Detectives from the C3I unit are on the scene and along with officials from CSX.   All railroad traffic has been stopped and in the area. The Beall Street train crossing will be closed for an extended period of time, as well as Cumberland Street in the area of the railroad bridge.  

Rob Doolittle from CSX has released the following statement:

CSX has stopped train traffic through the Cumberland area while local authorities investigate a deceased person who was discovered on CSX tracks earlier this morning. CSX officials are on scene and assisting with the investigation. The circumstances of the individual’s death are still under review.
