Cumberland Police Make CDS Arrest At Traffic Stop

On Tuesday, April 17th, 2018 a Cumberland Police officer was on patrol in the area of Valley and N. Centre Street when he observed a driver commit a traffic violation that almost caused a collision at the intersection.  The officer stopped the vehicle and upon making contact with the occupants, he detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle.  A subsequent search of the vehicle and occupants took place which resulted in the recovery of numerous individual bags of marijuana that had been packaged for sale.  Corey Daniel Smith of Cumberland was placed under arrest for suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and taken to the Cumberland Police Station for processing.  He was later taken before the District Court Commissioner and then remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center held on a $5,000 bond.  Additional charges are pending for two other occupants that were in the vehicle with Smith.

Charges:  Possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Held on $5,000.
