Data Shows Running Cost of Coronavirus on MD

Data obtained by WBAL show a running tally and partial list of how much Maryland has spent on its coronavirus relief efforts so far. The information, obtained through a Freedom of Public Information Act request, shows the state has spent $239 million on equipment and other materials to slow the spread of the coronavirus.  According to documents, Governor Larry Hogan's administration did not start purchasing equipment until nearly three weeks after issuing his state of emergency order. The state spent the majority of the money on personal protective equipment, like masks, gowns, gloves and more, adding up to nearly $142 million.  The Department of General Services said the data was a work in progress as more information is to be presented. All financial information will be made public, in more detail, after invoices are submitted to the state Board of Public Works.  Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot said this is all having a devastating effect on the state’s fiscal health…
