Maryland’s Secretary of Business and Economic Development was in Cumberland Monday afternoon to meet with local elected officials, business leaders and economic development representatives. DBED Secretary Mike Gill has made several trips to western Maryland since being appointed to head the department and he says his priority from day one has been attracting and retaining businesses. A regular point of frustration for local officials has been dealing with bureaucratic red tape when working to secure new businesses to the area. Gill says there are simple solutions to those problems, and that he will make sure there is a clear line of communication within his department to see that projects do not get delayed or halted in the future.
