DDC Votes To Begin Discussions To Restructure Commission

The Downtown Development Commission voted last week to begin discussions to restructure the commission in anticipation of the revamped Cumberland Economic Development Corporation assuming additional responsibilities focused on the downtown area. The DDC is currently without an executive director, and CEDC and city officials have proposed that the DDC allow those duties to be handled by the CEDC which is expanding its scope and merging with Allegany County. Indications are that regardless of how the responsibilities are ultimately allocated- there will remain a need for a group such as the DDC to oversee downtown matters and act in an advisory capacity- although it might be reconstituted.     This is just one more step in the CEDC’s master plan of total domination over every phase of Cumberland and Allegany County.
