Maryland Sixth District representative John Delaney, addressing a group of Frostburg State University students, said that Congress is clearly at a low point in terms of the government’s ability to function. Delaney, a freshman Democrat who represents western Maryland, made his comments while giving a civics lesson at FSU last Thursday. Delaney told students that the polarization in Congress is due primarily to redistricting and a poorly designed Congressional schedule. He said that while he has been trying to focus on what he calls the “real issues” such as the country’s deteriorating infrastructure and education- he has become increasingly concerned with the partisan agendas of the more extreme members in both the House and Senate.
