Delaney to Hold Urgent Meeting with Major Business in Garrett County

May 10th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Congressman John K. Delaney (MD-6) will meet with TDEC management and employees Friday in Oakland to discuss the importance of the Small Business Administration’s HUBZone program and his legislation to protect their HUBZone eligibility and support local jobs. TDEC is one of Garrett County’s largest employers, with approximately 115 employees at their Oakland site.

Absent congressional action, Garrett County will lose HUBZone status in early 2018, endangering many local jobs.

Congressman Delaney’s bipartisan GARRETT HUBZone Redesignation Act (H.R. 2013) reforms the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Historically Underutilized Business Zone Empowerment Contracting (HUBZone) program, giving Garrett County and similar communities around the country significantly more time to utilize the program and adjust to potential changes in their eligibility. Congressman Delaney’s legislation extends federal HUBZone eligibility for Garrett County businesses to 2022. Delaney has filed the bill the last two sessions of Congress, in both 2016 and 2017.
