Embattled Allegany County Register of Wills Rebecca Drew abruptly resigned from office Tuesday morning. Drew, recently indicted by the Grand Jury on charges of misconduct in office and theft scheme, submitted her letter of resignation to the Orphans Court and it was accepted following a brief hearing. Craig Rankin, Chief Deputy Register of Wills, was appointed on an interim basis- and the Orphans Court will accept letters of interest only until 4 PM Thursday. Letters and resumes can be delivered to the Register of Wills office located on the first floor at 59 Prospect Square.
