Early morning accident injures both drivers

On Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at approximately 0447 hrs, Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the intersection of Rt. 51 and Mexico Farms Rd Cumberland, MD for a reported motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival to the scene, Deputies found a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am operated by Jacqueline Rinehart, (50, of Ridgeley, WV) was traveling N/B on Rt. 51 when a deer entered the roadway. Rinehart’s vehicle struck the deer causing her to lose control and cross the center line into the S/B lane. Rinehart’s vehicle then collided with a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox traveling S/B operated by Robert Layton, (47, of Meyersdale, PA). 

Layton, and the front seat passenger, Autumn Layton, (36, of Meyersdale, PA) were transported to the Western Maryland Health System for treatment of possible injuries. Rinehart was also transported to Western Maryland Regional Hospital. Also responding on scene was District 16 Voluntary Fire Department and Bowman’s Addition Voluntary Fire Department.
