Farrell Loses Lawsuit Against Cox, School Board

June 1st, 2019 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports a court ruling on Friday ends a long legal battle involving the Allegany County Board of Education as well as three individuals. The civil action, filed in 2016 by Robert Farrell — who is now the school board’s president — and his late wife Lorelee, stated that decisions made by school board staff at that time led to their unjust termination of employment. Lorelee Farrell worked for the school system for 17 years as health supervisor. Robert Farrell was coordinator of safety, security and risk management. Lorelee Farrell was transferred before retiring while Robert Farrell's post was eliminated in 2015. The newspapers reports that in a 16-page ruling on Friday, United States District Judge George L. Russell III granted defendants, which in addition to the BOE include ACPS Superintendent David Cox, Benjamin Brauer — former supervisor of student services and Sheree Witt — former executive director of student services and special education, an early motion for summary judgment.

Here’s a math question for the kids in school – how many dollars were wasted by Mr. Farrell to prove what we already knew – that when your position is eliminated you no longer have a job? For extra credit – how much of that money was from the school board budget that could have been used to improve almost anything related to learning? Show your work, and spelling counts!
