Five Dead, Over 60 Injured in Turnpike Accident

The Pennsylvania Turnpike has been shut down in Westmoreland County, 40 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, due to a multi vehicle accident that has killed at least five people and injured over 60 more.

18 of the injured were taken to UPMC Somerset for treatment.

The mishap involved at least two tractor trailers and a tour bus, along with several passenger cars.  It happened during the 3:00 AM hour.

With the turnpike shut down, we expect additional traffic on Interstate 68 today.
