Former WV bishop issues formal apology

August 24th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

A former Roman Catholic bishop in West Virginia has issued an apology two years after resigning amid allegations of sexual and financial misconduct, and the diocese said Thursday that he has repaid $441,000. The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston has released a letter from former Bishop Michael Bransfield on its website. A church investigation last year found Bransfield misused diocese funds for lavish spending on dining out, liquor, vacations, luxury items and church-funded personal gifts to fellow bishops and cardinals in the U.S. and the Vatican. The investigation also found sexual misconduct allegations against Bransfield to be credible.

One wonders where he got all that money to repay what he had stolen to party.

      > He got it from oil stocks that had been left to the W.Va. diocese. The stocks pay millions of dollars in royalties a year, all the while the W.Va. church claims it has no money to settle abuse claims.

        > So, you claim that he got the money to repay the diocese from which he stole from that very same diocese. If the diocese had wanted to do that, they would not have gone public with his misbehavior and further tarnished the church’s image. Clearly the effects of TDS are more far-reaching than previously thought.

          > The Cardinal had no other assets. Everything he had, he stole from the church. He did not repay all he took, he repaid all he had. I keep forgetting that Trump voters are famous for being undereducated. Thanks for the reminder.

            > So, all he had was what he stole from the folks he repaid?!? So, the lavish spending on dining out, liquor, vacations, luxury items and church-funded personal gifts to fellow bishops and cardinals in the U.S. and the Vatican came from where? Perhaps frequent flyer miles? You are a moron even by local standards of self-hating ‘necks.

OH, we can move along now. He said he was sorry.
I’m sure that he also forgave himself of his sins.
