Funding Of Kirwan Commission Recommendations Expected To Dominate Session

The 2021 fiscal year budget, which Maryland Governor Larry Hogan discussed with General Assembly leaders Wednesday, proposes that $7.3 billion go toward K-12 education. Also in the plan: $355 million to fund recommendations in the Kirwan Commission and $94 million to expand pre-K access. The Kirwan Commission recommendations favored by Democratic lawmakers would add $4 billion to the state’s annual budget when phased in 10 years from now.
