Health Officer Comments on the Slim Chance of Fracking Coming to Area

Addressing a public health subgroup of the Garrett County Commissioners Shale Gas Advisory Group, the County's health officer said he doesn't think hydraulic fracking will ever come to the region. The Cumberland Times-News reports that Rodney Glotfelty said there are any number of deterrents including the severance tax and the regulations which he says could be among the most strict in the nation. The economic benefits versus environmental concerns has been a focal point of the fracking debate in Maryland. Governor Larry Hogan said counties such as Garrett and Allegany could use the economic boost  that could result from a new revenue stream created by the fracking industry….
