Hogan Plans Bipartisan Commission for Redistricting

Governor Larry Hogan reiterated in his state of the state address this week, a plan to form a bipartisan commission to explore reforming Maryland's legislative redistricting process. Hogan said his goal is to give the authority of redrawing the state's legislative districts to an independent, bipartisan commission. However, some Democrats, including Speaker of the House Mike Busch, were angered by Gov. Hogan's characterization of Maryland as having a "floundering" economy during his State of the State address. They also questioned where Hogan would find the money to cut taxes, after struggling to close a $750 million budget hole. Senate President Mike Miller was even more blunt in his assessment calling the governor’s address “horrible” and “disingenuous”:
