Interim City Administrator: Using Federal Relief Dollars Requires Navigating through Extensive Red Tape

The Cumberland Mayor and City Council voted last week to officially accept nearly $20 million in federal funds- the city’s share from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Passed by Congress, the federal aid package is intended to combat the public health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the total, an estimated $362 billion will go to state and local governments across the country. Municipalities in Allegany County will receive a total of $44 million.
