Last week, the Maryland State Board of Education selected Karen Salmon, acting deputy state superintendent for school effectiveness, as the state's next state superintendent of schools. Addressing growing criticisms that the public school system is failing, Salmon said that isn’t the case. . She has had the opportunity to visit most of Maryland’s school systems.
