Man Charged With Pair Of Maryland Avenue Burglaries

January 27th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

On January 26, 2019, the Cumberland Police served a Criminal Summons on Michael Beem, age 39 of Cumberland, MD. The Summons stemmed from a December 29, 2018 investigation into a burglary in the 400 block Maryland Avenue. During the investigation officers learned that a neighbor was walking in the area of the victims residence and observed a door ajar. As he approached the door to ensure everything was ok, a male subject ran from the residence carrying a box of stolen property. The concerned neighbor and the suspect had a brief altercation over the property before the suspect fled the area. Officers were unable to locate the suspect, but had located witnesses who saw a potential vehicle involved in the burglary fleeing the area.

On January 17, 2019, officers again were summoned to the same residence for an attempted burglary complaint. During this complaint the witnesses described the suspect as being the same suspect from the previous burglary. Officers searching the area located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that fled the area during the December 29, 2019 burglary. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified occupants. Officers also transported witnesses of the burglary to the scene of the traffic stop to try and identify the possible suspect. Witness from both burglaries identified Michael Beem as the subject who had burglarized the property. Subsequently, officers applied for charges through District Court and a Criminal Summons was issued. Beem was charged with first degree burglary and theft $1,500 to under $25,000. Beem was served with Criminal Summons and released on this case pending trial in District Court.
