Marijuana facility coming to Hancock

September 11th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports officials say a medical marijuana company partnered with a Washington County town for plans to open a new operation in the area. The Herald-Mail reported in a statement released Thursday, Hancock officials announced the municipality entered into an agreement with Harvest, which is a medical cannabis cultivation, production and dispensary company. Officials say the company, which operates facilities in several other states, plans to apply for one of the state’s 15 cultivation licenses this year. Harvest’s CEO Steve White says the group saw Hancock as “an ideal place” for a Maryland cultivation center after seeing the need for new jobs. Officials say Harvest anticipates that at full capacity the facility would employ 124 people with initial construction costs of about $11.5 million.
