Maryland Has New Attorney General

Maryland now has a new attorney general, as State Senator Brian Frosh has taken the  oath of office as Maryland's 44th attorney general. That means Doug Gansler is leaving the office after eight years.  Gansler, who lost the Democratic nomination for governor last year to Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, says that the billion dollar multi-state settlement with several banks over mortgage foreclosures to be his biggest accomplishment. Running a close second, and something he says he is most proud of was his advocacy for same sex marriage. In 2010, Gansler issued an opinion saying the state must legally recognize same sex marriages performed out of state. Gansler said he believes that decision convinced the legislature to approve same sex marriage, with lawmakers and then voters approving same sex marriage in 2012. He said the change in attitude toward same sex marriage during his eight years was remarkable…
