Mayor and Council Hear Public Comment on Probable Tax Increase

For the past two months the Cumberland Mayor and City Council have been hearing from constituents on the proposed FY 2018 budget- and while it’s not popular- it appears the city will move forward with a budget that includes a 9.75 percent property tax increase.  During the most recent council meeting, a half dozen city residents addressed the council. A common theme centered on the size of the tax hike. Several said the city should have done better fiscal planning by implementing smaller, incremental increases over a number of years- as opposed to a nearly ten percent hike all at once…
