MD delegation to host press conference demanding end to delayed mail

August 17th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, and Kweisi Mfume will host a press conference Monday to discuss delays in mail delivery and other matters.

In a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the delegation described complaints from constituents who have not received mail for weeks, including seniors who have been waiting for prescriptions and small businesses experiencing delayed deliveries. The lawmakers expressed concern for the thousands of Marylanders who plan to vote absentee in the upcoming presidential election to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While we recognize that some of the problems we’ve outlined existed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that your recently announced policy changes on the national level will only cause them to be further exacerbated,” the Members wrote. “As such, we are specifically requesting that you reinstate and continue paying overtime, develop measures to keep employees safe, allow more flexibility with regard to start and end times for routes, and develop a plan to address staffing shortages as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

This is our Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. His wife was appointed by Trump as the Ambassador to Canada.

In the 2016 campaign, DeJoy donated more than $440,000 to the Trump Victory Fund, the inaugural committee and the Republican National Committee, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

“Trump’s Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and his wife have between $30.1 million and $75.3 million in assets in U.S. Postal Service competitors and contractors,” reads the statement. “The man Trump put in charge of OUR Postal Service has the most to gain from its destruction.”

      > You sir are incorrect! Mail is delayed because it goes to several places before you get it. If you were a postal employee you would no that the system is broken.

          > Sir I recommend you ask anyone who works for the postal service before you go making yourself look foolish like you did.

You guys don’t get it. I’m talking about Louis DeJoy, not the efficiency of the Post Office.
