MD General Assembly Session Begins Today

It's that time of year again: Annapolis is about to get a lot busier as Maryland's 47 senators and 141 delegates reconvene for the start of the 2017 legislative session today.  The General Assembly launches its annual 90 days of lawmaking at noon Wednesday. This year will see the resurrection of some of last session's most vigorous debates, on bills with both local and statewide implications. Topping the agenda once again will be budget considerations and political clashes. The state's projected revenue shortfall of $400 million will cast its shadow over General Assembly debates this year, and is likely to make lawmakers think twice about initiatives that significantly increase spending.  Despite the potential for fireworks and partisan battle line, Maryland Senate President Mike Miller says he anticipates a relatively controversy free session…
