Morriss comments on Kelly Resignation

June 26th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation has officially accepted the resignation of Paul Kelly as executive director. The statement, from CEDC chair Jonathan Hutcherson on behalf of the board, offered no reason as to Kelly’s decision to step down. The five paragraph release praises Kelly for his “fierce determination” in leading CEDC efforts since taking the job in July of 2015. It is anticipated that Kelly will continue to serve as executive director through the end of August and that he will assist the board with the selection of, and transition to a new director. It is hoped that he will continue to serve as a resource following  his departure. Kelly’s departure comes at a time when the Downtown Development Commission is searching for a new mall manager. Mayor Ray Morriss, a CEDC Board member, tells WCBC News that the changes could lead to stepped up efforts by the city and Allegany County to combine economic development efforts…

With Kelly’s ego out of the way consolidation can now take place. He was only worried with gaining more power and shirking any oversight. The county and city will only progress into a successful consolidation with him out of the way!
