The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, that Eric Mowbray, 33, of Barton, Maryland, pled guilty to a single count of embezzlement.
The charge is the result of a forensic audit conducted by the members of the Tri-Towns Emergency Medical Service, in which breaches of fiduciary duties were uncovered in the use of company funds and equipment by Mowbray.
Mowbray was sentenced to ninety (90) days incarceration which was suspended. He will be on supervised probation for a period of three (3) years under certain terms and conditions imposed by the Court. Specifically, that he pay restitution in the amount of one thousand four hundred twenty dollars and ninety nine cents ($1,420.99) to Tri-Towns Emergency Medical Service; and to have no contact with the same unless, and if circumstances dictate, in a professional fire fighter capacity.
The case was prosecuted by Sam Lane, Assistant State’s Attorney. Mr. Mowbray was represented by Sean Gallagher, Esq. The Honorable W. Timothy Finan, Judge of the Circuit Court for Allegany County, presided over the matter.
This matter was able to be brought to the court due to the efforts, diligence, and record keeping ability of the members of Tri-Town Emergency Medical Service. The membership and its executive staff should be commended for their hard work. The State’s Attorney reminds all individuals who may be members of these types of organizations that a system of checks and balances, as well as appropriate record keeping procedures, is essential not only to the success of your organization but in the prosecution of individuals involved in violation of this trust.
